For the past two years Fundación Grupo San Felipe has devoted time and resources to create the first IT center in the city of Añatuya, province of Santiago del Estero. Our vision was to start a digital revolution in one of the neediest areas of our country, helping to digitalize education and “close the gap”.
We are now proud to announce that, after much effort and cooperation from our sponsors, theCentro Informático Añatuya (Añatuya´s IT Centre) is now fully operational. The centre was first opened to local high school students on November 26th, 2011.
The centre is now being used for short courses on general PC use, MS Office, etc., and the second phase of our program will be deployed in 2012, integrating education, community and IT through Math, Physics and Geography.
Formal inauguration is scheduled for December 10th, 2011, when community members and media representatives will be attending. During the inauguration, the centre will present its objectives and capabilities to stakeholders, inviting the community to spread the good news mouth-to-mouth in their homes, schools and workplaces and to seize what are now limitless opportunities.
A letter from Soledad Mojica, a student the society helps to sponsor.
Dear Authorities of the Anglo Argentine Society
My name is Maria Soledad Mojica and I was born on 29th July 1991. I live in the Department of Taboada, Province of Santiago del Estero, Argentina. My family consists of my parents and three younger brothers. (…) When I finished elementary school at my hometown, I wanted to continue studying, so my parents saw the possibility to enrol me at a school in Añatuya. During the school year, I was an intern at the school and, on holidays, I returned to my home. The early days were a bit difficult because I missed my family. However, as time went by, I adapted to my life in Añatuya and learnt many things.
When I was at half way of completing high school, the Principal of my school introduced me with volunteers of “Fundacion Grupo San Felipe”. Those volunteers invited me and my school mates to attend the five meetings held every year at Añatuya. In such meetings, various topics were dealt with through talks, games, movies, etc. It was great fun! I also learnt many values, which helped me in my daily life, and study skills which helped me study thoroughly. When I was at my last year at high school, the psychopedagogues of “Fundacion Grupo San Felipe” made vocational tests to each of the students who participated in the Foundation meetings. It was very good, for the results indicated us in which areas we were better prepared to continue studying. This greatly helped me to decide my career path for I was a little confused (though I knew that it was going to be something connected with “numbers”). Thanks to this test and the help of the Foundation’s psychopedagogues I was able to find out my career.
During my last two years at high school, I had the opportunity to participate in the first “Añatuya Sabe” -a contest organized by the Foundation and where different schools of Añatuya also participate-. I really enjoyed the challenge of studying, but much more to share a nice day with other boys. It was such a great experience!
In 2009, at the end of my last year at high school, I received great news which made me and my family very happy. I was appointed to receive a scholarship from the “Fundacion Grupo San Felipe”. It was something unexpected and I still thank God for this opportunity, because my family may not have the necessary resources to help me continue with what I wanted.
In 2010 I started the two and a half years career of “Técnico Superior Contable Impositivo” (“Senior Technician in Accountancy and Taxation”) at the Catholic Institute of Superior Studies which belongs to the Catholic University of Santiago del Estero (located in the capital of Santiago del Estero).
(…) With regard to the “Fundación Grupo San Felipe” I care a lot about them and because of this I would like to collaborate with them in the future, for all they are doing is very good. (…) Everything they transmitted to me, was, is and will be a tool in my life.
My experience with my tutor (Paz Otero) is very nice and it would not be the same without her, for I feel accompanied by her at all times and I know that under any circumstances she will always listen to me and understand me. The same goes for the other members of the “Fundación Grupo San Felipe”. I really admire all their dedication and effort for young people.
And to you, the Authorities of the Anglo Argentine Society -who provide the financial resources which make my scholarship possible- I am infinitely grateful for your help and for being part of my life, for with your help you let me achieve what I always wanted. I will never stop giving thanks to you and I will always pray for the Anglo Argentine Society may continue with its projects and the Virgin Mary and God be with you all.
Lastly, I want to tell you that my dream after I graduate as “Técnico Superior Contable Impositivo” is to study the career of Public Accountant and, once I obtained my degree, I will be able to help children or youth either in their economic or spiritual education. In my personal life, in the future I wish to form my own family and pass on to my children everything I learnt over all these years.
I hope this letter helps you know me a little more.
Best wishes, God and the Virgin May bless you all.”
Please note that the best mark possible is 10/10. As of today, Soledad’s average is 9.125/10.
