It was heartening to see that the 2012 AGM was well-attended and, and as with all AGMs, a lively debate followed. I am pleased to announce that Viscount Davidson, son of the founder of both Canning House and the Anglo-Argentine Society, was present and he was duly elected to become an Honorary Vice President of the Society.
The following were additionally duly elected to the Committee: Horacio Fernández Palacio (Argentine Embassy co-opted Member to the Committee); Sabina Romeo; Fernando Messulam; Juan Kiriluk. Peter Rumboll becomes the new Treasurer of the society, with his position as Vice Chairman being filled by Eddie de Oliveira.I would like to thank them all personally for kindly offering their time and services to our most noble cause. The evening became very much a social and happy occasion enjoyed by all, with drinks and canapés (including choripan) being served, adding further to a most convivial occasion. The AGM culminated in a rendition of Happy Birthday sung with great gusto for Barney Miller. A birthday cake was presented to him, and much to everyone’s surprise Fernando Messulam, a tenor and one of the newly elected Committee Members, sang a short aria to mark the special occasion. This impromptu gesture was much appreciated and truly enjoyed by all, a further gifted member to add to our treasure trove of talent within the Society. Hopefully we shall see and hear a lot more of him at future events.
