THE AAS JORGE LUIS BORGES LECTURE

Wednesday, July 12 @ 6:30 pm

Wednesday July 12 @ 7.00 pm (Reception at 6:30 pm).

Borges on Language, Poetry and Truth

by

Dr Humberto R. Núñez Faraco

University College London

Through a reading of key poems, essays and works of fiction, this lecture will explore the connections between literary language and poetic truth which Borges so fervently maintained throughout his work.

Humberto Núñez Faraco graduated in philosophy from the Universidad de Los Andes (Bogotá) and subsequently came to London to do a postgraduate course in early music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Following his studies in music, he obtained a Master’s degree in Area Studies at the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS). He was awarded a PhD from the University of London in 2001. Since then, Dr Núñez Faraco has published widely on various aspects of Borges’ work. These include the monograph Borges and Dante: Echoes of a Literary Friendship (2006), and a number of articles dealing with ethics, poetics, and psychoanalysis (please see list of selected publications below*). His most recent research work is in the field of political philosophy and the literature of ideas in Spanish America. Future plans for publication include the monograph Utopía y realidad en el ensayo político hispanoamericano. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Spanish & Latin American Studies at UCL.

A wine reception will be held from 6:30pm
