At the AGM on 24th Nov 2008 the Chairman, in her annual report, described the year ending 31/08/08 as an “annus horribilis”. Due to exceptional circumstances reserves had been wiped out, in spite of donations received from members in response to the Chairman’s appeal. A rethink of our modus operandi was recommended.
Three former Chairmen undertook to direct the Society with a view

1) To keep up the programme of events,
2) To recover the finances
3) To recommend how to operate in future.

The former chairmen, Miller (1986-9), Robinson (1994-7) and Edbrooke (’97-2000), are pleased to report that stages 1 and 2 (above) have been fulfilled: 1) events have proceeded apace, 2) finances are once again sound. The next stage, 3) a plan for the future, is pending. The “Triunvirato” have been ably supported by a committee of 6 former and 5 new members, and hereby offer their services for one more year to complete the process.
In accordance with the statutes, however, three of the longest-serving members shall stand down, but will be invited to rejoin as co-opted members to ensure continuity of the process initiated in 2008/09. The current co-opted members offer themselves for election. Members of the of the Society who would like to join the committee are invited to submit applications by 15th October. (Please call the Secretary for guidance).
Events during the year have been well attended, and profitable (with two exceptions the AGM of 24th November and the gnocchis dinner of June 29th).
Main sources of income were the raffle, (for which we are indebted to Aerolineas Argentinas), the asado (12th July) the revue (13th May) and Dominic Miller’s concert (18th June). A detail of all the events follows, showing attendance and profit/loss.
There has also been a favourable response to our appeal to bring subscriptions up to date and to bring in new members. The single most effective source of revenue was claiming Gift Aid for previous years, for which Tony Robinson is to be commended.

Reminder: please bring your subscription up to date if you haven’t already done so. It was due 1st September 2009.
