- It is with great regret that we announce the death of John Blake. John passed away on Tuesday 14th in Rio Gallegos, Patagonia, aged 83. Beloved husband of Monica and father of Alison, Michael, Stephen, Stuart and Frances, John visited us at the Society several times, including a fascinating – and packed – charla to present his book, A Story Of Patagonia.
During a lifetime of farming in Patagonia John introduced and improved many farming techniques, and created a new breed of sheep. He was also awarded the OBE for services to the British Community in Argentina: for many years he arranged the Rίo Gallegos “Gymkhana”, which for some years was the largest Anglo-Argentine fund-raising event in Argentina, raising much-needed funds for BABS. He will be much missed by many, both in England and Argentina.
Alison and Stuart (Chacho) remain committed members of the Society, and our thoughts are with them. The funeral took place in Rio Gallegos, and a memorial service will be arranged in England at a later date.
- It is with great sadness that we announce the death of long-time society member Catalina (Cathy) Lea. Cathy loved the AAS and made a point of always attending the Gran Asado. Our condolences go to her children and grandchildren at this difficult time.
