A very belated message to thank you all for attending this year’s Gran Asado. It was far and away the best and most successful asado that the Society has ever held, and all tribute for this major success goes to our Vice Chairman, Annabelle Wood – on behalf of us all thank you so much Annabelle, we all know how hard you worked.
I would also like to thank once again, our main sponsors Steamond Travel and British Airways for their very generous raffle first prize of two tickets to Buenos Aires; Gaucho for sponsoring the magnificent main marquee, and Pampas Plains for their major contribution in the supply of the excellent and delicious Argentine prime beef.
A big thank you to Derek Gibson and his wonderful team of asadores and the many helpers – too many to mention but all stalwart active members of the society, you know who you are – many thanks for your dedication and hard work which has been the mainstay year after year, what would we do without you! Each one of you deserves a medal for your dedication and tremendous effort. We nearly doubled our profit this year to just over £10,000 for the event, which attracted a record number of guests just shy of 900. The weather lent greatly to the occasion, and we must have been truly blessed on this front, since the weather, as you well know has been truly appalling this summer.
I would particularly like to thank the new Argentine Ambassador, Mrs. Alicia Castro, for joining us at this special Jubilee and Olympic Year event, and for helping to make it a joyous, social and happy occasion. Again, we would like to take this opportunity to extend all best wishes to the Ambassador during her term of office here in the UK.
There has been considerable activity taking place with regards to the future of Canning House due to their decision to surrender its long term lease at No2 Belgrave Square. Whilst no decision has yet been reached as to an outcome with respect to the Society, we are currently tied up with intricate legal matters and are taking professional advice. Please rest assured that the Executive Committee is in full control of the unfurling events, and that the right decision will be ultimately made for the good of the Society. I will, of course, keep you advised of any tangible news on this front.
Finally, I would just like to mention, that if any of you have any good/fun photos taken at this year’s asado, we would very much like to have sight of them with a view to placing on our website. Please do not feel shy and send us what you have taken !!
Sincere best wishes to you all
