The 65th Anniversary of the Anglo-Argentine Society at the Argentine Ambassador’s London Residence – October 2013

The celebratory party was held at the Argentine Ambassador’s Residence on 10th October 2013, to commemorate the Anglo-Argentine Society’s 65th Anniversary (founded in the Autumn of 1948).   The event was an outstanding success and I would like to thank Her Excellency Ambassador Alicia Castro for allowing the Society to hold this very special Anniversary celebration at the Embassy Residence. Certainly this beautiful and historical building lent itself perfectly to such a very special occasion.

The Society would also like to thank the most generous sponsors for the evening, namely Aerolineas Argentinas  –  Pampas Plains – Chango Empanadas – Lomito – Hispa Merchants – Argentine Grill Constancia – Casa Argentina-  and the Argentine Embassy Staff, all of whom help to make the party such a great success.

A big thank you too, to the Committee for their support and help in arranging to make this a truly memorable evening for members and the special invited guests.

The party also helped to bring together the various different elements of the Membership, ranging from the younger generation to the senior members of the Society and a great mix of both British and Argentine nationals.  Above all, it helped to further promote the strong historical, cultural and social ties that exists between both countries and their communities.  A Welsh contingent with strong links to Patagonia were present, and we are currently in discussions with them regarding the celebrations due to take place in 2015 to mark the 150th Anniversary of the first Welsh landing in Patagonia, on the clipper ship, Mimosa.

The Society was particularly pleased to see so many important and distinguished guests including the Argentine Ambassador H.E. Excellency Alicia Castro and Senior Embassy Minsters.

The Society was also delighted that Viscount Malcolm Davidson, the son of the Society’s famous founder Viscount Davidson was able to join the celebrations too.

Overall the party offered a wonderful platform in helping to further foster good relationships between all.  The wonderful canapés were delicious and the excellent Argentine wines flowed freely throughout the evening. The raffle was a huge success, with Aerolineas Argentina offering a fabulous prize of two return airline tickets from Barcelona to Buenos Aires.

The atmosphere throughout the evening was most convivial and very friendly, and presented the opportunity for people to meet old friends and make new acquaintances, which certainly was the case.   It was a truly great and memorable evening enjoyed by all.
